Mr. Kern was the reason that i am not a very IWC fan. After having seen his speech looking at a small grouping of investors, I realised that IWC's philosophy didn't match mine. Something was clear by IWC's replica watches of roughly the very last Ten to twenty years at the same time by the way.Models which kept my interest over time though were the IWC Pilot Watches. That sure can be a pity and that i imagine having a reason to trade a watch.I am a fan with the Little Prince. Of course I own Saint Exupery's book of him, even copies translated in various languages. And there's a model figure in the Little Prince in this little desk. One plus one makes three in cases like this, when added with me feeling happy for IWC as a consequence of Georges Kern's move.Remarkable dial and strapSo here's my friend's IWC Mark XVIII Le Petit Prince as subject of this article. Along with what a wonderful watch it truly is. What streaks a persons vision directly is it's wonderful shiny, and not too shiny, midnight blue dial. The dial has a shot blasted metallic finish which makes a radial shine in certain light conditions. Very refined. Secondly the brown calfskin leather strap with its cream coloured quilted stitching is fairly striking at the same time. The strap, reminiscent of Saint-Exupery's flight suit as outlined by IWC, shows to make by Italian leather specialist Santoni.Close-up of the dial, date disc and hands in the Mark XVIII Little Prince editionClose-up in the dial, date disc and hands with the regular IWC Mark XVIIIDate disc, bezel and handsFurther inspection with the IWC Mark XVIII Le Petit Prince edition (ref 3270 04) learns that you have more differences when compared to the regular IWC Mark XVIII (ref 3270 01). Directly visible could be the hue of the date disc, which can be white for the Little Price edition while the regular version features a black one. Another quite visible difference could be the bezel. Polished for the Little Prince edition while matt brushed (similar to the rest of the casing) around the regular version. Difference is visible comparing hands at the same time. Even though the Little Prince has metal polished hands, the off the shelf Mark XVIII version hands are matt black.The limited Prince character nicely embossed, compared to the Junkers Ju 52 airplaneImportant difference in case backsLast yet not least will be the difference in case back. The miscroscopic Prince edition has the Little Prince character nicely embossed and engraved within it, as the regular Mark XVIII shows a Junkers Ju 52 airplane. IWC mentions the Junkers because most popular aircraft useful for civilian travel inside the 1930s. In my opinion it is more known to be the Luftwaffe's main bomber during WWII, until more sophisticated aircraft like the Heinkel He 111, rolex yatchmaster Junkers Ju 86 and Dornier Do 17 applied for service. Ju 52s participated in the attack for the Netherlands on 10 May 1940, where they were deployed in the first large-scale air attack with paratroops ever sold throughout the Battle to the Hague.
